Mrs. Spencer
I am the gifted coordinator at OHDELA, Ohio Distance and Electronic Learning Academy, and have been lucky to have the opportunity to work with five ThinkQuest teams during the 2010-2011 school year comprised of students in grade 2 through grade 8. I started teaching in 1994 and have been involved with gifted education for thirteen years in a variety of roles: gifted liaison, gifted center teacher, gifted resource teacher, and gifted coordinator.
I was searching for a unique forum that would suit the needs of our gifted learners at OHDELA and found ThinkQuest to be the perfect opportunity for us. I have loved seeing students at various grade levels move through the competition process with the opportunity to use their varied strengths and talents to complete the tasks. This process has helped students to develop communication skills, critical thinking ability, problem solving, and leadership which are invaluable skills for success in the global technological society of today. I am very excited that the students will have a lasting digital media product that they can continue to develop. I can’t say enough about the ThinkQuest competition process and the unique experience it has provided to our gifted students at OHDELA and look forward to competing again next year.
Athena
I am 8 years old. I love to sing and talk with my friends. I try to spend as much time as possible with animals. Summer is my favorite season. Black is my favorite color. I don’t really like to be alone unless it’s to get away from my siblings' craziness! I have 2 younger brothers and 1 sister, 3 cats, 1 hamster and 1 fish. I am excited to see what my team can do to help the animals.
I made a video so people can learn more about the animals' trouble. I've learned a lot.
Seth
My name is Seth Zorica. I am 8 years old. Basketball and football are fun. I live with my brother, mom, dad, and two sisters. I have 2 dogs, (K.C. and Reese), a cat named Checkers, 2 horses and 39 guinea pigs. I like them all. It is funny to see the dogs and cat play together. Horses are a lot of fun to ride. Guinea pigs are cuddly and fun to hold. I like to see baby birds peek their heads out of their nests.
ThinkQuest is cool because I get to learn about endangered animals. I get to help people learn about how littering and pollution cause animals to become endangered. I hope to help animals and make it so that they are not endangered. I also want to help them stay out of pounds.
